Most of my photos of the interior of Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood were taken with my point and shoot like my photos of Tristan. This lodge is beautiful. Built in the 30's as a part of the WPA, it is now a national historic landmark. By 1955 the lodge was closed and in disrepair but a man named Richard Kohnstamm began operating the lodge and by the early 60's was making a profit. In the 70's he began restoration of the lodge and today it hosts over a million visitors each year.
Our room, the artwork over the bed is an original from the WPA era.
Looking down on the lobby. Devil's Thumb Ranch designed their new lodge after Timberline.
The artist who created this, as well as several others in what used to be the bar and grill, carved and stained linoleum. Much of the color has faded or was removed in the restoration/cleaning process.
Don't know why a Swiss flag, or for that matter a Canadian flag, is flying at the lodge, but I had to take a photo of it!
