Springtime Pelicans

Kris took me to Wagon Train State Recreational Area outside of Hickman where we saw Pelicans!  They happily soared in the clear blue sky and played in the water.

Heads down...

Heads up.  This group of Pelicans did their "heads up, heads down" routine for quite some time.  It was fun to watch.

A Beautiful Day in Houston

Pam and I went out to breakfast this morning near Rice University and did some shopping in the area.  We found some great things for Elizabeth, took some photos to a framer for Eric, and Pam bought some books at the mystery bookstore.  Then we went to the Houston Arboretum and walked around.  Here is some of what we saw.

These turtles were hilarious to watch.  The big one started swimming toward us and the little one got in front of her and acted like she was warning the big one not to come too close to us!  This went on for a few minutes.

Texas Wildflowers

Pam took me to Washington on the Brazos, the birthplace of Texas =).  It was a beautiful place and though the Bluebonnets were not in full bloom there were some to be found along with a variety of other wildflowers.  Today, Sunday March 28, I found the names of some of these  wildflowers and I've added them below.

Texas Paintbrush

Spiderwort

Rose Mallow

Bluebonnet

The Bluebonnet fields that we saw weren't any fuller than this.

Texas Dandelion

And of course another Bluebonnet, i.e. Texas Lupin

Monday at Eric's

Pam and I had a couple of projects we wanted to do for Eric.  One was indoors and I forgot to take the before picture.  The other was outside and I did take the before and after photos!

Note the landscaping (not the bad photo) =).

Now doesn't that look better.  We took out the big sage bush and it's hard to tell but we replaced it with an Indian Hawthorne.  We also put in a couple more to the right of the sidewalk.  They will get to be about 2 feet tall and bloom.

Eric lives in the Heights, a designated historic district in Houston.  This is an old street sign at the corner of his street, tiles in the curb!  I'll try to remember to take a photo of the new street sign today.

A little wild flower growing under the bushes in the front yard.

Butterflies & Beer Cans

Pam and I arrived in Houston yesterday.  It was cold and rainy but it was great fun to see Eric and he treated us to a delicious meal at Goode Company Seafood Restaurant.  This morning we woke up to a sunny sky and even though it's windy, we've had a great time.  We visited the Rice University Campus and then went to Houston Museum of Natural Science and visited the butterfly center.  After that Eric took us to the "Beer Can House".  And on our drive home we saw some bluebonnets!

This is the sign on the gate and the following picture of the planter gives an idea of what the house looks like.  I didn't have the right lens on the camera for a good shot of the house.
