Snow Geese & Others

I think spring is just around the corner.  Not only are the Snow Geese at Squaw Creek, but we also saw Northern Pintails and, one of my personal favorites, Buffleheads!

Northern Pintail couple.

Not sure, but this might be a Golden Eagle.

Swans at Squaw Creek

Kris and I left at 5:30 this morning to see the million Snow Geese take off.  We missed it!  It takes 2 hours to get there and we planned on an hour and a half :(.  Oh well, we did see some take off and we saw these beautiful swans.

I love the shadow on his right wing that is caused by his left wing, so cool.

Road to Roca

I went to Roca to pick up the quilts that Pam and I had taken to Carol Doolittle.  It was around 3 and the sky was already partially cloud covered except for where it formed the horizon line and there it was quite a pretty blue.

When the quilts are finished I'll have to do a post with them!

Prairie Moon

If I ever start designing quilts or stuff, I may name my little business "Prairie Moon Designs".  But for this blog post, it describes what I saw.  We spent about 2 hours hiking.  It takes a lot longer when you're on snowshoes.  Great workout!

Can you find Sam in this photo?

If I was going to print this photo, I would take out the telephone pole and lines :).

Afternoon on the Prairie

Sam and I went snowshoeing at Nine Mile Prairie this afternoon.  It was the first time for Sam to use the snowshoes I gave him for Christmas last year.  Fortunately someone else had been out snowshoeing before us so there was a trail, of sorts.  Making a new trail is a lot of work especially when there are drifts, and there were lots, and the snow was as deep as it was.

So obviously this snow was attached to this post at one time :).
Though I've walked on this trail (on the south side of the prairie) many times, I had never noticed this little pond.

The moon was up early, this photo was taken around 5 p.m.

 Patterns on the prairie

Here's the trail that I photographed in the fall.

11.5 Inches on Saturday, February 4

Seventy degrees on Monday, January 30!

What an incredible day we had Monday.  I actually went walking without a jacket or sweatshirt.  The following photos are from Pioneers Park.

I changed this photo to black and white.  It was so weird to be taking photos of ice in January and wearing just a t-shirt (OK all you smarty pants, I was wearing more than just a t-shirt!).

Funky slime and interesting shadows, I think.

Looked down at one point and noticed these guys on my knee.  Kinda got off the beaten track!
