On The Road Home

As we drove past this windmill there was a Coyote lying down at the base just looking up at the blades as they turned.  Of course by the time we turned around and got in position he had moved on.

This tree was across the street from Peru State College.

I wanted to get closer to this fence but there was an electric fence in my way and I was hesitant to try to step over it!

Bald Eagle

In this photo the Eagle has turned his head to look behind him, kinda like an owl, I think.

Snowy Egrets

This guy was in the median of Hwy. 2 not too bothered by the traffic!

I did not do a good job taking photos this weekend, but I liked these any how and thought I'd share them.  The guy below caught a frog and was quite content to let me watch him.

Pelicans

This shot is taken facing northwest, more or less.  Highway 2 right after the Missouri River bridge at Nebraska City is in the background.

Cormorants

Sam and I decided to go on an outing today.  We drove to Nebraska City again and this time we found Pelicans!  Hundreds of them, but this post is about Cormorants because wherever you find Pelicans you're sure to find Cormorants.

If you enlarge this one you can see the color of his eye.

The dots in the trees are nests and Cormorants.

These were "boo-boo" shots but I messed with them and processed them as monochrome and I kinda like them.

American Avocet

On my not so successful journey to find Pelicans at Nebraska City and points north, I came across what I thought were some Gulls.  When I got home and went through my photos I saw that they weren't Gulls, actually there were some Gulls, but American Avocet.  I've never seen them before so it was fun to discover that I'd not only seen them, but also photographed them.  As usual the quality is lacking but the experience was fun.

Sam and I think this is a Snowy Egret.
Other random shots along the way below.

Close-ups at the Prairie

Since I had so many photos from this afternoon, I decided to break them up into 3 posts.  I always forget that the last post is the first seen when you go to the blog.

Birds at Nine Mile Prairie

What would a visit to the prairie be without birds?

The above 3 are of American Goldfinch, we think and the ones below are Bluebirds. They were very far away and the sun was getting low, so the quality of the photos aren't wonderful but I really like the setting.

Nine Mile Prairie

I took Sam to Nine Mile Prairie this afternoon.  He had never been there so we walked around for about 2 and 1/2 hours and visited areas I had not seen before.  We even saw a pheasant, but I didn't get a photo of him.

Looking for Pelicans

I keep thinking I'm going to find Pelicans at Wagon Train Lake but so far I haven't had any luck.  I drove over on Friday after school but all I saw was a group of Killdeer and a few fishermen.

Trip to Omaha

A couple of weeks ago I went to Omaha to pick up some new dishes from Pottery Barn.  On the way I stopped at Mahoney Park.  The sky was beautiful and the light was nice on the changing leaves.

I Was Wrong About the Coots!

There are lots of them at Holmes Lake, Sam and I saw them when we walked this evening.  Didn't photograph them though because my goal is still to get a good shot of their feet.  The Chickadee is in our backyard, I sat on the deck and he came to the feeder.  The butterfly and sumac are from the Lake.
